Formed in 2002 to bring together various motorsports expertise within the Chrysler Group and combine it with the Dodge Viper development team and key engineers from the Mopar performance division. The aim is to develop high performance variants of key Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep vehicles.
The first SRT product was the ultimate American sports car, the 372kW (500bhp) Dodge Viper SRT-10 in 2002.
Next, the award-winning Dodge SRT-4, a 172kW (230bhp) sub-six second 0-100km/h (0-60 mph) rocket based on the Neon and only available in the US.
The third model was the Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 - certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck. A handful have sold privately in NZ.
After that in line was the supercharged Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 that arrived in NZ in 2005, highly praised for its exhilarating performance.
The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the next SRT vehicle to be powered by a 6.1-litre HEMI® V8, joining the 300C SRT8, and offers 30 per cent more power than the 5.7-litre HEMI®.
